Transnet, one of South Africa’s largest and most influential state-owned enterprises, is inviting applications for its Boilermaker Apprenticeship Programme 2026 at Koedoespoort.
This hands-on training programme is a great opportunity for young South Africans to develop in-demand trade skills and start a career in the engineering and infrastructure sectors.
Purpose of the Programme
The apprenticeship aims to develop competent, qualified Boilermakers who can work independently and efficiently within industrial and engineering environments. Apprentices will be trained to plan, manufacture, assemble, inspect, and repair mechanical and structural components while applying technical knowledge in real-world contexts.
This programme blends theoretical learning with practical training, ensuring participants graduate with the full range of skills required for employment as qualified artisans.
Key Responsibilities
Apprentices will gain practical exposure in areas including:
- Planning and preparing the work site, materials, and equipment.
- Using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Fabricating and assembling components for mechanical and structural systems.
- Inspecting, maintaining, testing, and repairing parts and assemblies.
- Modifying and adapting components to meet specific project needs.
This training prepares learners to meet national trade test standards and excel in various industrial environments.
Minimum Qualifications and Entry Routes
Applicants can qualify through any one of the following academic pathways:

Additional Requirement: Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.
