ETDP SETA Coded Welding Occupational Skills Programme 2025
The Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA) in partnership with Gert Sibande TVET College (Mpumalanga) is inviting unemployed South African youth to apply for the Coded Welding Occupational Skills Programme 2025.
This initiative offers participants a unique opportunity to develop industry-relevant welding and engineering skills, preparing them to become qualified Coded Welders capable of meeting the needs of South Africa’s growing industrial and manufacturing sectors.
About the Programme
The Coded Welding Skills Programme is a six-month training course combining theoretical learning and practical application.
Learners will gain the knowledge and technical ability to:
- Produce welds that meet international and local engineering codes.
- Understand and apply safety regulations and procedures.
- Perform visual, non-destructive, and destructive testing of welds.
- Master welding procedures and techniques used in professional environments.
By completion, learners will have the certification and confidence to perform skilled welding work across sectors such as construction, fabrication, and heavy engineering.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To qualify for the programme, applicants must meet at least one of the following:

| Grade 11 | With passes in Mathematics and Physical Science |
| Advantageous | Prior welding exposure or completion of a basic welding course |
| Preferred Candidates | NCV Level 4 / N4 in Mechanical Engineering, Welding, or Engineering and Related Design; or Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science |
Additional Requirements:
- Applicants must not be enrolled in another training or educational programme.
- Must demonstrate physical fitness, technical aptitude, and good hand-eye coordination.
Programme Details

| 6 months | R3,000 per month |
Training will combine classroom theory and hands-on practical learning, ensuring graduates are job-ready for industry placement upon completion.

Interested applicants must submit the following documents:
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Certified copy of Grade 11/12 results or NCV/N4 certificates (Mathematics & Physical Science required)
- All certifications must be issued within the last six months
