Steve Tshwete Local Municipality Bursary Scheme 2026

The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality (STLM) is inviting applications for the 2026 Bursary Scheme, designed to empower and support deserving youth between the ages of 18 and 35 who permanently reside within the municipality’s jurisdiction (STLM – MP313).
This bursary aims to assist qualifying students to pursue undergraduate studies at public universities or TVET colleges, including both full-time and distance learning programmes.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be South African citizens residing within STLM – MP313.
- Be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Have applied for admission or been accepted into a public institution of higher learning.
- Come from a household with a combined annual income not exceeding R350,000.
- Be first-time tertiary students at a public university or TVET college.
- Preference will be given to applicants from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
Note: Students with incomplete undergraduate qualifications or those applying for the first time may be considered, depending on academic and financial history.
Fields of Study Supported
The bursary will fund studies in the following disciplines:
- Engineering: Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mining, Chemical
- Finance: Accounting, Financial Management, Internal Auditing
- Built Environment: Town & Regional Planning, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Real Estate / Property Valuations & Management
- ICT & Communications Technology
- Law and Legal Studies
- Environmental & Development Studies
- Media Studies
Bursary Coverage
Funding is subject to the availability of municipal budget and may include:
- Tuition fees (as per the institution’s official fee structure)
- Accommodation and meals (with supporting proof, e.g. lease or boarding documents)
- Prescribed learning materials and books
Note: Full funding is not guaranteed. Final allocation depends on budget availability and individual learner agreements.
Required Documents
Applicants must attach certified copies of the following:
- Applicant and parents’/guardians’ ID documents
- Grade 12 certificate or latest results (Grade 11 for current matriculants)
- Admission letter from an institution
- Academic transcripts (if already studying)
- Motivational letter explaining financial need and career goals
- Proof of household income or affidavit if parents are unemployed
- Death or marriage certificates (if applicable)
- Proof of SASSA grant, if relevant
- Indicate if parents are employed by the Municipality
