The South African National Society (SANS) is inviting South African students to apply for the Killie Campbell Bursary Programme for the academic year 2025. This bursary is aimed at students pursuing postgraduate studies in a history-related topic, specifically focusing on South African history, preferably the history of KwaZulu-Natal.
Bursary Details:
- Value: R25,000 for the 2024/25 academic year.
- Payment: The bursary will be paid in two equal tranches of R12,500 each. The first installment will be paid in September 2024 at the SA National Society monthly meeting, and the second installment will be paid six months later, upon receipt of a satisfactory written submission by the recipient’s supervisor.
Selection Process:
- Applicants may be required to attend an interview with the selection committee, which can be held in person or electronically (via Skype or similar means).
- Bursary recipients will be required to provide a brief outline of their topic at one of the SA National Society’s monthly meetings.
- After completing their dissertation, recipients must present a soft copy of it for publication on the SA National Society website.
- SANS reserves the right not to award the bursary if a suitable candidate is not found.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
- Studying towards a postgraduate qualification with a history-related topic.
- Research topic or dissertation must relate to South African history, preferably KwaZulu-Natal history.
- Must be enrolled at a recognized and accredited university in South Africa.
