Students living within Nkangala District Municipality can apply for 2027 bursary funding across engineering, technology, finance, law, architecture and other priority fields.
The bursary is aimed mainly at undergraduate students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds who need financial support to study full-time at a recognised public tertiary institution.
Priority fields include Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Finance, Software Development, Robotics, Law, Architecture and Town Planning.

Who can apply?
Applicants must be South African citizens between 17 and 35 years old and must live within the Nkangala District Municipality area.

Applicants must also come from a historically disadvantaged background and demonstrate financial need.
What are the academic requirements?
Applicants can be in Matric or already studying at a public tertiary institution.
The bursary supports full-time undergraduate study at recognised universities, universities of technology and TVET colleges.
Current university students need an overall average of at least 60% for the 2026 academic year.
TVET College students need an overall average of at least 50% for 2026.
Applicants who are still in Matric should submit their Grade 11 final results together with their latest Matric results.
Which technology fields are included?
Technology-related study options include Information Technology Engineering, Robotics and Software Development.
These fields can support careers in software, automation, digital systems, industrial technology and technical services.
For students interested in technology, the bursary provides a route into formal tertiary study without limiting support to traditional engineering degrees.
Which engineering fields are covered?
Civil Engineering and Mining Engineering are among the priority fields.

What is the income limit?
The total household income must not exceed R180,000 per year.
Applicants need to provide evidence of household income as part of the application.
Successful bursary recipients must also enter into a contractual agreement with Nkangala District Municipality.
What does the bursary not cover?
The bursary does not pay outstanding student debt.
Applicants with existing university or college debt should therefore not expect the bursary to settle earlier balances.
The funding is intended to support qualifying study for the 2027 academic year.
