What will you do in the Electrical Section?

You will support the daily work of the municipality’s electrical field teams.

Your duties will include:

  • Loading and offloading materials and equipment
  • Helping keep work areas clean
  • Putting out traffic signs near roadside work
  • Supporting excavation and other physical work
  • Following instructions from supervisors
  • Carrying out general labour needed by the section
  • Assisting with ad hoc operational tasks

The work is practical and field based, so you should be comfortable with physical activity and outdoor conditions.

How will you support municipal electrical work?

You will not be appointed as an electrician, but your work will help electrical teams complete their tasks safely and efficiently.

That can include moving tools and equipment, preparing work areas, supporting excavation activities and making sure the area is clean before and after work.

This makes the position part of the wider municipal infrastructure operation that supports electrical services.

How important is roadside safety?

Roadside safety will be an important part of the work.

You may need to place traffic signs near municipal roads while work is taking place. These signs help warn motorists that workers are operating nearby.

You will therefore need to follow safety instructions carefully and use the correct protective equipment.

What physical work should you expect?

You should be prepared for manual labour.

This can include:

  • Carrying materials
  • Loading equipment
  • Cleaning work areas
  • Assisting with excavation
  • Using basic manual tools
  • Supporting field teams as instructed

Good physical health is required because the work can be demanding.

Who can apply?

You need at least Grade 10.

Grade 12 will be an advantage.

You should also have:

  • At least one year of relevant general-work experience connected to an Electrical Section in local government
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Basic practical knowledge of physical work
  • Good physical health
  • Self-discipline
  • A strong work ethic

A valid driver’s licence will also be an advantage.

Do you need to live in Midvaal?

Preference will be given to applicants who live within the jurisdiction of Midvaal Local Municipality.

The municipality has also made it clear that applicants living in neighbouring municipalities will be disqualified.

This includes residents of areas under:

  • Lesedi Local Municipality
  • Emfuleni Local Municipality
  • Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality
  • City of Johannesburg
  • City of Tshwane
  • Mogale City
  • West Rand District
  • Sedibeng District

You should therefore make sure your residential information is accurate before applying.

Will previous EPWP experience help?

Preference may be given to applicants who previously worked as EPWP workers in the municipality’s Electrical Section.

That experience can be especially relevant because it shows that you already understand the type of field work, safety procedures and working environment involved.

What must your CV include?

Your CV needs to clearly show your relevant experience.

It should include accurate information about:

  • Previous job titles
  • Employers
  • Duties
  • Length of service
  • References

Applications with vague or incomplete experience information may be disqualified.

Your CV must also be uploaded in a supported format and must be clear and readable.

What can this experience build?

Experience in a municipal Electrical Section can help you build practical knowledge in areas such as:

  • Municipal infrastructure
  • Electrical field support
  • Public works
  • Worksite safety
  • Materials handling
  • Infrastructure maintenance
  • Local government operations

It can also strengthen future applications for semi-skilled municipal or infrastructure-support positions.

How much will you earn?

The salary is:

R166,392 to R182,280 per year

The total package, including benefits, is:

R307,561.08 per year

The positions are graded at Level 13 of a Grade 04 Local Authority.

Will there be background checks?

Shortlisted candidates will undergo background screening.

This may include:

  • Qualification verification
