What can you learn in the RAF Claims programmes?

The Claims learnerships provide practical exposure to the administrative processes involved in handling Road Accident Fund claims.

Depending on the location, learners may assist with receiving and registering files, scanning documents, indexing records, checking claims information, preparing correspondence and maintaining records.

Some programmes also provide exposure to:

  • Claims assessment
  • Medical appointment administration
  • Attorney communication
  • Claims investigations
  • Assessment of damages
  • Medico-legal reports

The Durban Various Claims Learnership, reference 7006, offers particularly broad exposure to claims assessment and legal claims administration. It closes on 25 August 2026.

This experience may be useful for young people interested in future careers involving insurance claims, legal administration, financial services, compliance or claims processing.

What do the Technology and Digital learnerships involve?

RAF is also offering Technology & Digital opportunities in East London, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Pretoria.

Who can apply for RAF Learnerships 2026?

Requirements differ slightly between programmes, but most applicants need to meet the same basic conditions.

Candidates generally need to:

  • Be unemployed
  • Be between 18 and 23 years old
  • Have completed Grade 12 or Matric
  • Not previously have worked in the relevant field
  • Not previously have completed a similar learnership
  • Not previously have served as a learner
  • Be willing to undergo verification
  • Be willing to undergo security vetting

Certain Technology & Digital positions require Mathematics, so applicants should check the requirements for the reference number they intend to apply for.

What documents do applicants need?

Supporting documents differ between opportunities.

Applicants may need:

  • Certified South African ID
  • Certified Matric or Grade 12 certificate
  • Statement of Results where accepted
  • Academic results where required
  • Short CV
  • Motivational letter

RAF requires the CV and motivational letter to have a combined maximum length of three pages where this requirement applies.

Applicants should make sure documents are clear and complete before submitting the online application.

Are any RAF learnerships targeted at people with disabilities?

Yes. Some of the current opportunities specifically support RAF’s employment equity objectives.

The Durban Various Claims Learnership, reference 7006, and Durban Technology & Digital Learnership, reference 6998, are identified as disability-targeted opportunities.

People with disabilities who meet the requirements are therefore encouraged to consider these programmes.

Will RAF learners receive a stipend?

Successful learners will receive a monthly stipend.

The vacancy information uses different remuneration fields across the programmes, so a single monthly amount cannot be stated confidently for every opportunity. The final remuneration applicable to each learner will be confirmed through the relevant programme and employment process.

Why should applicants apply early?

Some RAF learnership opportunities state that only the first 100 applications will be considered. This does not mean that 100 learnership positions are available.

Applicants affected by this condition should submit their applications as soon as possible rather than waiting until the closing date.

This is particularly important for opportunities closing on 17, 18 and 19 August 2026.

How do you apply for RAF Learnerships 2026?

Applications must be submitted online through the Road Accident Fund e-Recruitment platform.

No hand-delivered applications will be accepted.

Applicants should search for the programme they want and confirm the correct reference number before applying.

The current closing dates are 17 August, 18 August, 19 August and 25 August 2026, depending on the opportunity. Candidates should apply according to the deadline attached to their chosen RAF learnership.
