This opportunity is reserved specifically for TUT graduates. Candidates also need a valid driver’s licence, computer skills and the flexibility to work after hours and on weekends when required.
Applications close on 27 August 2026.
What is the TUT Graduate CATHSSETA Learnership?
The Graduate CATHSSETA Learnership is an opportunity within the Department of Sport and Recreation at Tshwane University of Technology’s Pretoria West Campus.
It is designed to give a qualifying TUT graduate practical workplace exposure within a university sport and recreation environment. The learner will assist with administrative work while also contributing to the planning and coordination of sporting activities and events.
The programme carries reference number 26/L39 and falls under TUT’s Directorate of Sport and Recreation.
Who can apply for the TUT learnership?
The opportunity has a particularly important eligibility condition because it is available only to graduates of Tshwane University of Technology. Graduates from other universities do not meet this requirement.
Applicants must also have completed a qualification in one of the following fields:
- Sport Management
- Coaching Science
- Event Management
Candidates should have performed well academically and be comfortable using computers, including Microsoft applications. A valid driver’s licence is also required.
Knowledge or previous experience in sport administration will be an advantage, although it is not listed as a compulsory requirement.
What will the successful graduate do?
The learner will support the Department of Sport and Recreation with both administrative work and activities connected to university sport.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with office administration and related functions
- Supporting the organisation and administration of sport activities
- Coordinating and organising sporting events
The position therefore combines general workplace administration with practical exposure to the operational side of sport and recreation.
For a graduate interested in sport management, this can provide experience in the work that takes place behind sporting activities, including planning, administration and event coordination.
Why are administration skills important in sport management?
Sport and recreation organisations require more than coaches and athletes. Sporting programmes also depend on people who can organise events, manage schedules, maintain records, communicate with participants and coordinate the administrative work behind activities.
The TUT learner will gain exposure to this part of the profession by assisting with office functions and sporting activities within the university environment.
This experience can be relevant to graduates interested in future careers involving sport administration, recreation management, event coordination and other operational roles within the sport industry.
Why must applicants be available after hours and on weekends?
Sporting activities do not always take place during ordinary office hours. Matches, competitions, tournaments and other events may be held in the evenings or over weekends.
Applicants must therefore be prepared to work after hours and during weekends when required.
Candidates should consider this requirement before applying, particularly if they have commitments that would prevent them from working outside standard weekday hours.
Do applicants need a driver’s licence?
Yes. A valid driver’s licence forms part of the minimum requirements for the learnership.
This differs from requirements that are merely listed as advantageous. Candidates applying for this opportunity should therefore make sure they have a valid licence.
Applicants must also be computer literate and comfortable working with Microsoft applications, as administrative work will form part of the position.
What documents are needed for the application?
A complete application requires both personal and academic supporting documents. Candidates should prepare everything before sending their application so that important information is not accidentally omitted.
Applicants need to submit:
- A detailed CV
- Fully completed standardised application form
- Recently certified copies of qualifications
- Recently certified copy of South African ID
The standardised application form is available through the university intranet. Since the programme is specifically intended for TUT graduates, applicants should make sure they complete the required university form before submitting their documents.
Incomplete applications may be disqualified.
How should graduates prepare their applications?
Candidates should use their CV to present their qualification, academic background and any experience relevant to sport, administration or events.
Those who have previously participated in sporting activities, event organisation, university sport, coaching or administrative work can include relevant experience where appropriate. Applicants with sport administration experience should make this particularly clear because such experience is an added advantage.
Candidates should also check that their certified qualification and ID copies are recent and readable before attaching them to the email.
How do you apply for the TUT Graduate CATHSSETA Learnership?
Applications must be submitted by email to the Department of Sport and Recreation.
Candidates should send their complete application to: TukakgomoKL@tut.ac.za
The email application should include the detailed CV, completed standardised application form and recently certified copies of the applicant’s qualifications and identity document.
Applicants should also include reference number 26/L39 in their application so that it can be associated with the correct opportunity.
Before sending the email, candidates should open each attachment and make sure the correct documents have been included.
What happens after applications are submitted?
- Candidates who progress through the recruitment process may be required to complete appropriate psychometric testing or other selection assessments used by the university.
- Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
- Candidates who have not received feedback within one month after the closing date should regard their applications as unsuccessful.
- Applicants should therefore make sure the telephone number and email address on their CV are current and that they monitor their communications after applying.
How does Employment Equity apply to the opportunity?
Tshwane University of Technology will consider representativity in terms of race, gender and disability when filling the opportunity.
Women and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply. The university may also decide not to make an appointment.
When do applications for the learnership close?
Applications for the TUT Graduate CATHSSETA Learnership close on 27 August 2026.
Candidates should prepare their application form, CV and certified documents before the deadline rather than waiting until the final day. Since applications are submitted by email, it is also important to check that attachments have been successfully added before sending.
Who can you contact about the programme?
Questions about the opportunity can be directed to Ms KL Tukakgomo at the Department of Sport and Recreation.
Applicants can contact her by email at TukakgomoKL@tut.ac.za or by telephone on 012 382 5096.
The same email address is used for submitting applications, so candidates should clearly distinguish an application email from a general enquiry.
What should you check before applying?
The most important point to confirm is that you are a Tshwane University of Technology graduate, as the programme is specifically reserved for TUT graduates.
Candidates should then make sure they have a qualification in Sport Management, Coaching Science or Event Management, a valid driver’s licence and the required computer skills. They must also be willing to work after hours and on weekends when sporting activities require it.
Before submitting the application, check that your standardised application form is fully completed, your CV is current and your recently certified qualification and ID copies are attached. Complete applications must reach TUT by 27 August 2026.
